Opole – a city with county rights in southwestern Poland, the seat of government of Opole Voivodeship and Opole County. The twenty-seventh most populous city in Poland (128,035 residents at the end of 2019).
In terms of area, the fifteenth (149 km²). Located in Central Europe, on the Silesian Plain, in the Wroclaw Proglacial Valley and the Opole Plain, on the Oder River, today it is about 270 km from the Polish capital and about 41 km from the Czech border. One of the historical capitals of Upper Silesia.
